Whatcha Up To, Coffee?! – #5

A weekly status update from everyone’s favourite caffeinated weirdo.

Hey everyone! It’s Coffee and it’s time for more Games with Coffee.

And now I got sick! Between the chills, feeling super weak, coughing fits and work stuff, this week has not gone according to plan. However, I’m going by the maxim: little by little, it will get done. So, I’m not too stressed about not meeting what I set to accomplish this year. If I take it bit by bit, I’ll be right where I need to be.

Here’s whatcha boi’s been up to this week:

Whatcha Playin’, Coffee?

100% and Platinum on God of War Ragnarok! Ahh… this game! I was really pleased with the post-game content – the optional fights against the Berserkers and Gna were tough but stimulating, and the post-game favours were insightful and gave context to certain events within the story. All in all, this was a 10/10 in my book and is (so far) my Game of the Year.

Moving on to Crisis Core Reunion, I’m halfway complete with the missions. The new Battle Stance mechanic combined with the Costly Punch materia has really helped with the higher-ranked missions. I feel like I’m breezing through this faster than I did with the original Crisis Core. And I think that’s the point of these remasters: Retain the bones of the original game but provide enhancements to make the game a more streamlined experience.

I also played a stint of Super Mario World this week, mainly because Kid Espresso is Mario-obsessed! I sometimes forget how fun it is to play that game. However… It’s no Sonic the Hedgehog 2, so I don’t see myself going back to it as frequently as my favourite video game of all time haha.

Oooh! I also scored a physical copy of Metroid Prime Remastered! I’m very happy I was able to get a copy of the game. I can’t wait to sink into it. But first, Hollow Knight! I’m way overdue for a playthrough of that one.

Whatcha Writin’, Coffee?

Writing has hit a snag due to my illness. I just couldn’t get around to starting the Book 2 draft, so I’ll start it this weekend (hopefully). I did update the bios for most characters, I just need to upload them to the new site. Go-live is coming up shortly, so I need to hurry and get that uploaded.

On the Games with Coffee front, I managed to finish writing about how Gaming Media Outlets encourage Gatekeeping. I hope to have it published shortly after the Whatcha Up To column, most likely for the weekend. It was a hard, hard post to write, I will not lie. I feel that I’ll get some flak for it, but I think it’s necessary – both for myself and for my audience – to get to the heart of what moving to a Stewardship model means and how to spot various forms of Gatekeeping. I hope you all will find it enriching when it goes live.

Whatcha Watchin’, Coffee?

Sadly, save for a few speedruns, I’ve not watched much this week. I will, however, use this space to say that I was a guest on my good friend, Bill’s, A Gamer Looks At 40 podcast. We had a lovely chat about a few games within The Legend of Zelda series, specifically the ones on the GameCube which I have fond memories of.

How’s Trainin’, Coffee?

Bad news on the training front. I saw my doctor this morning about my shoulder issue – I may have a possible partial or full tear on my right shoulder rotator cuff. So, I can’t work the upper body until I get a few scans and see a physiotherapist. I was also sick this week, so training wouldn’t have been happening anyway. I’ll have to find alternate means to build up the body without aggravating the shoulder.

Perhaps this would be a good time to focus on nutrition then? Since I can’t do anything too strenuous, I’ll give this body recomp thingy a try.

Whatcha Streamin’, Coffee?

Did you all know I used to make music? I think I’m going to take a stab at making some short chiptunes to use for my streams and videos. I don’t think it’ll be too hard to accomplish. Once I get that going for next week, the fun part will start!

On another note, I feel that I’m finally ready to get back to streaming. I’ll start with one night a week – possibly Tuesday or Wednesday with a continuation of Wind Waker. No Sonic and SEGA stuff just yet – I have some more work to do on that front. I want those streams to be as fun and engaging as possible because Sonic and SEGA are my things and I’m proud of it!

So, how has your week been? Let me know in the comments below and I’ll see you next Friday!
