Whatcha Up To, Coffee?! – #3

A weekly status update from everyone’s favourite caffeinated weirdo.

Hey everyone! It’s Coffee and it’s time for more Games with Coffee.

Week three has been a challenging one – not only did I catch a cold, but I also got saddled with a tough work project. Still, I pushed ahead and did something, even if it was just a little bit. In fact, that’s kind of the motto for the year: “Little by little, it will get done.” Anyway, here’s whatcha boi’s been up to:

Whatcha Playin’, Coffee?

OH MAH GOD, NINTENDO DIRECT! This past Wednesday was the Nintendo Direct and wow, it did not disappoint. At least in my eyes. There’s a lot of good content coming for Splatoon 3 and Xenoblade Chronicles 3; I’m sure my friends who enjoy both titles are thrilled at the prospect! The big draw here was the gameplay trailer for Tears of the Kingdom. Link’s got himself new ways to get around. On the flip side, enemies seem to be upgraded, and they look more vicious than ever! May can’t come fast enough!

There were also two big surprises within the Direct! The first is the inclusion of GameBoy and GameBoy Advance games to the Switch Online service! While the lineup is paltry at the moment, there’s a vast library of games just waiting to be played. Here’s hoping Nintendo updates them more frequently than they do with the NES/SNES. The GameBoy Advance’s inclusion finally forced my hand in purchasing the Expansion Pass. Now, my backlog has virtually quintupled, thanks to all these classic games and expansion pass bonuses. It’s both a good and bad thing.

The second big surprise was Metroid Prime Remastered! I mean, there were rumours circling around a re-release of Metroid Prime thanks to Metroid Dread reinvigorating the series, so it’s about time. But I was not expecting the game to look so gorgeous! I cannot wait until the 22nd so I can pick up a physical copy.

Otherwise, I’ve spent the last several days exploring the Vanaheim crater in God of War: Ragnarok. This area is HUGE and there’s so much to do. The quests there add to the lore of the Norse era and it was tons of fun to go accomplish these with Kratos, Atreus and Mimir. Lots of witty banter, challenging fights, and sweet loot.  If there was any other company or developer in charge of the franchise, this whole area would have been locked DLC. Santa Monica pretty much has a lock on the single-player narrative experience, in my honest opinion.

On top of that, I’ve continued my playthrough of Crisis Core Reunion. I did all the missable missions and went through the Nibelheim Incident part of the story. I’m getting close to the end and I’m starting to create my build to take on the late-game missions. Minerva, I’m coming for you, so watch out!

Whatcha Writin’, Coffee?

Getting close to the draft date for Book 2. Looking back at my outline, I’m pretty happy with how I’ve approached this section of the story. There are several character development arcs that I hope readers will be pleased with. I realized too that each book will have a sort of theme associated with it. The first revolves around facing your problems head-on instead of running away from them. The second, I would say, revolves around the past, and how it should not dictate your present. I’ve come up with the theme for the third book, but I’ll share that at a later date.

On Games with Coffee, you’ll see that I’ve been putting up posts every two weeks. That’s by design – I’m spacing out my posts so that I give myself enough time to get my points across. Right now, I’m having a bit of trouble with my media and gatekeeping post coming up this week. My being sick didn’t help, but I also feel like I’ve hit a roadblock on it. I think I need to do some more research on the topic before completing the write-up.

Whatcha Watchin’, Coffee?

Besides the Nintendo Direct, I’ve been watching speedruns of Super Metroid with Kid Espresso. Did you know that Super Metroid is his favourite game? He loves whenever I play it. It’s the one title that he doesn’t get bored with after an hour into it.

How’s Trainin’, Coffee?

Training has slowed down a touch because I was unwell for most of the week. I managed an upper body session on Monday before my cold worsened. I’ll fit in a full-body workout after today’s post to make up for the lost week. It sucks, but life happens. All that matters is consistency.

Both of my shoulders have been giving me issues lately. I may have to see my doctor about it, and maybe get some physiotherapy to fix them up. We’ll see next week.

Whatcha Streamin’, Coffee?

This week was supposed to be dedicated to stream work, but alas, no dice. I’ll move it to next week instead.

I’ve also come to a startling decision on streaming – When I start back up, I won’t be streaming on Sundays anymore. Surprising, right?! Well, the decision came down to spending more time with my wife on weekend nights. Thus, I’ll have to rebrand. Again! I’m aiming for Tuesdays and Thursdays for weekly streams, with the occasional Friday afternoon stream to do something relaxing. As for a new name for what used to be my Sunday stream, I’m thinking of calling it the Sonic and SEGA All-Star Spectacular. What do you think of the name?

As for the moich store… I’ll put up a poll on the tweeters to ask about it. As long as the site isn’t truly broken though haha.

So, how has your week been? Let me know in the comments below and I’ll see you next Friday!
