A weekly status update from everyone’s favourite caffeinated weirdo.
Welcome back to Whatcha Up To! Coffee here, and here’s to the end of another week!
Happy Switch 2 Release Week! While I won’t be picking one up at launch due to various circumstances, I am very, very happy for everyone who managed to get one. I’m sure I’ll get my own system in the coming months. Also happening this week is not-E3!

State of Play was this week and I’ve already added a bunch of games to my wishlist. The remastered version of Final Fantasy Tactics was a welcome surprise. 007: First Light looks pretty interesting. And a Marvel fighting game without Capcom involved? Wonder how that’ll work? Anyway, there are more showcases happening between now and the next couple of weeks – including Summer Games Fest – so I’m bound to see more titles that will pique my interest.
Anyway, here’s what’s been happening this past week:
Whatcha Playin’, Coffee?
I took back Mario vs. Donkey Kong and started up Cult of the Lamb. I was not expecting it to be so addicting! There’s a cute but extremely disturbing charm to the game that’s taken hold of me and refuses to let go. I might have to get a copy of the game for my personal library. I’ve taken out three of the main bosses already and have fully upgraded my cult, but it feels like there’s still so much to do in terms of building stuff! It’s great, I love it! I’m still at it with Secret of Mana, but it’s hard to get into when Cult of the Lamb is so engrossing, haha.

In other news, I fired up my PS3 for the first time in ages and decided to get back into Borderlands 2. I got that game right as I got married almost 13 years ago, but I never got to finish it. This time, I’m gonna knock this one off the backlog and finish my Zer0 run once and for all!

Oh yeah, it’s also Shantae’s birthday this week! Happy Birthday to our favourite, belly-dancing, magical half-genie! I dove into the Nintendo eShop and bought the first two titles – Shantae and Risky’s Revenge – on sale. So completes my Shantae collection! Or, at least until I pick up Risky Revolution. If you haven’t played these games yet and are fans of Metroidvanias, I highly recommend you check them out!
Whatcha Writin’, Coffee?
Next up on Backlog Busting are posts of Splatoon 2 and the Octo Expansion. I’m writing individual posts because they’re separate games entirely in terms of story and game mechanics. Spoiler: I liked one more than the other.
Still working away at Chapter 33 and I may have made a breakthrough. Writing stuff out on paper always seems to do that. Guess I’ll need to do that more often to get this whole thing done, huh?
Whatcha Readin’, Coffee?

I didn’t do too much reading this week, but I did borrow a copy of Gideon the Ninth from the library. I heard great things about the book, so I want to check it out for myself. And I’m still reading Mortal Coils too. Should be done that one soon so I can put up a quick review. I’ve just found it hard to read anything, lately. It happens; some days all I want to do is read. And some days, all I want to do is write and create stuff. I appear to be in the latter of these phases, lately.
That’s it for what’s been happening recently. Anything new on your end? Let me know below, or on Bluesky.
