A weekly status update from everyone’s favourite caffeinated weirdo.
Hey everyone! It’s Coffee and it’s time for more Games with Coffee.
I apologize for the delay in this update. I’ve looked back at previous posts and for some reason, entries 11 to 15 have been duplicated to look like the latest entry. I blame WordPress’s reusable blocks for this. Seriously, this is stupid. Guess I’m gonna have to copy/paste my entries manually from now on, I can’t trust these blocks.
Anyway, I’ve picked up Tears of the Kingdom on Friday and I’m blown away by how amazing it is! Expect lots of updates on this one going forward. I may even stream my ongoing playthrough. Details below.
Last week has been an interesting week. Kid Espresso was home between Monday and Wednesday due to illness and I had to rehabilitate my upper back injury. That was the bad news. The good news is that my writing is on point! I’ll explain more below, but without further ado, here’s whatcha boi’s been up to:
Whatcha Playin’, Coffee?
Last Tuesday, I played a quirky title called Dynamite Headdy, made by the folks who made Gunstar Heroes. It’s a tough but fun game. I had a lot of fun with it during the stream.
Though the trial ended, I was so enamored with Cadence of Hyrule that I got the game and the expansion pass. I should have been playing it, but strangely this week, I didn’t play too many video games.
Wait, no, that’s a lie. I won a copy of Dragon Warrior from @videogamesmonthly and it was delivered on Wednesday. Kid Espresso and I spent a good couple of hours playing it. Fun times!
And finally, I picked up Tears of the Kingdom. So. Damn. Good.
Whatcha Writin’, Coffee?
First things first. Stats for this week:

Chapter in progress: 6

Words wrote: 15,410 (A net increase of 10,814 words from last week)
Book 1 Repost Stats:

Chapters Scheduled: 3
Chapters Remaining to Convert: 24
This Week’s Chapters:
Chapter 13: Through a Rotten Slice
And the full chapter list is here.
A few weeks ago, I mentioned that writing for me would either be a slog with no updates for a few weeks or just me going crazy and dumping thousands of words in the span of days? Yeah, this time around, the latter happened LOL. I’d link back to the entry where I said that, but it mysteriously disappeared /s.
Yeah, so, I’m currently writing up the flashback sequence of Tails’ story. It follows closely to the script, but I made my own additions/modifications to keep it distinct. After Chapter 6 will be an intermission chapter in which the group does things to earn money for the journey, all while thinking about Tails’ story.
Thing is, if I knock out 1500 words a day every day up to my projected 200,000 words total (Book 1 was roughly 170,000 for reference), theoretically, I should be done the draft by mid-September, leaving me with roughly four and a half months to complete the good draft in time for the proposed February 2024 release date.
On the blog front, I’ve put up a new post about Hollow Knight and the illusion of permanence. The game was a good reminder that not everything is supposed to last forever. Better to enjoy what we have now than worry about creating and maintaining an everlasting legacy.
Whatcha Watchin’, Coffee?
Komi Can’t Communicate. Sure, this might be out of left field but it is like a soothing balm to the soul. It’s so wholesome and pure that it has made me forget just how terrible reality can be. I must hunt down more of these wholesome, feel-good, slice of life shows. Any suggestions?
How’s Trainin’, Coffee?
Got my upper back looked at by my specialist a week ago. It seems like it’s a severely pulled muscle that’s been causing me all this pain since Thursday afternoon almost two weeks ago. I was a bit limited in what I could do earlier in the week, but I was able to get back to my standard routine by Thursday of last week.
Here’s this past week’s routine:
Monday: Mowing the Lawn
Tuesday: 5-Minute Kettlebell Circuit
Wednesday: Full Body Kettlebell Workout
Thursday: Chest and Upper Body Kettlebell Workout
Friday: Leg Day w/ Kettlebells and hefting bags of Topsoil
Cut is in progress. And it’s hard, haha. Trying to get in the needed numbers to satisfy my macros has been tough. I’m sure I’ll figure out something as the weeks progress. There are some good high protein recipes out there that I’m going to experiment with. I’m aiming to end my cut by around my birthday in July.
Whatcha Creatin’, Coffee?
I read some comments about ads and pre-rolls on Twitter and I think I figured out how to work around them to my audience’s advantage. Means I have to cut off a commercial break and the “Tell Me Something Good” segment, but I feel it wasn’t working out, despite my best efforts. Sigh. Finding good news to share in an environment where negative news is king is extremely difficult.
The good news is that after a three minute ad thing at the start (which no one really tunes in anyway), it’s smooth, ad-free sailing for my viewers for a whole hour. It’s a work in progress, but I hope to see something come out of it.
I’m so damn busy with the story that I keep forgetting to create clips to share on my socials about my streams… It’s hard doing a whole bunch of things all at once.
“But Coffee, why not just focus on one thing then?” My answer to this is no, I’m not interested LOL. Life’s too short to focus on one thing of interest. ‘Sides, I love being busy. It means I don’t have to be existential about everything.
I’ve really enjoyed streaming just one day out of the week; it’s been a boon for the story. At the same time, I want to finish Wind Waker. Plus, there’s Tears to play too… In the end, I’ve decided that I’m going to alternate my streams. Every other week, I’ll stream something different. Last week was a “Sonic and Sega All-Star Spectacular” show, so this week will just be titled “Whatcha Playin’, Coffee?” I’ll stream my ongoing playthrough of TotK. Then, back to Sonic stuff next week. And so on and so forth.
So, that’s last week’s update. What happened with you all? Let me know in the comments and I’ll be seeing you on Friday.
