Whatcha Up To, Coffee?! – 2024 #15

A weekly status update from everyone’s favourite caffeinated weirdo.

Welcome back to Whatcha Up To! Coffee here, and here’s to the end of another week. And what a week it was, considering I was under the weather. Let’s recap what happened since last we spoke:

Whatcha Playin’, Coffee?

Echoes of Wisdom! Despite its slow start, I’m having a great time with it! The Tri Rod mechanics took a bit of time to get used to, but I’m now totally digging the insane amount of creative ways to both solve puzzles and kill monsters. Also, the bed, the freaking BED is the ultimate tool. You can use it as a bridge! You can use it as a stepping stone! And you can use it to heal whenever you want! It’s so amazingly broken and I love it. I’ve finished the first three dungeons and I’m now wandering the land, gathering Heart Pieces, completing quests, fixing rifts and picking up some powerful echoes.

I’m still engrossed in all things Pokemon, namely Fire Red. I’ve picked up my seventh badge, completed the new island quest line and am now cruising around the world, picking up rare Pokemon. I should be going to Viridian shortly.

Sonic X Shadow Generations is also out! I’m gonna splurge and pick up two copies: one for my PS5 to bask in the glorious visuals and one for my Switch just because haha. Sonic Generations was one of my favourites from the Unleashed era of games, so I’m happy to double dip for the remaster. Now, give Sonic Unleashed the same treatment, you cowards at SEGA!

Whatcha Writin’, Coffee?

A little light writing for Mobius VII this time around. It was hard to get back into it as I’ve been unwell this week. All of the rest I’ve given myself should have me primed for the annual November/December blitz though.

I’m also working on the next Backlog Busting report, this time on Forspoken. Hoping to have that one out soon.

Side note: I’ve been spending a lot more time on Bluesky now that it’s risen in popularity versus that other social media site. It feels like what Twitter was like seven or eight years ago. Positive, fun, good vibes, honest-to-goodness conversation about games and authentic connection with people. The past seven years have proven that nothing really lasts forever, but still, I sure hope Bluesky as it is lasts for a good long while.

Whatcha Readin’, Coffee?

Reading physical books will take a bit of a back seat these next few weeks due to the aforementioned blitz. Instead, I’ve been listening to audiobooks. I know I read The Tainted Cup on physical recently, but I couldn’t help but listen to the audiobook version as well. Man, the narrator’s voice for Ana sounds exactly like I thought it would in my head. It’s always neat when that lines up!

How’s Trainin’, Coffee?

Zero training this week since I’ve been sick. I’m almost better though. Training shenanigans will resume next week!

That’s it for what’s been happening recently. Anything new on your end? Let me know below. Otherwise, I’ll talk to you next week!
