A weekly status update from everyone’s favourite caffeinated weirdo.
(It’s extremely late, but better late than never, amirite?)
Hey everyone! It’s Coffee and it’s time for more Games with Coffee.
Another week, another update! Things were done (in some way, shape or form), though I haven’t been feeling it all this week, honestly. Could be due to the fact that Lil’ Mac and Kid Espresso got sick at the tail end of the week. Anyway, here’s whatcha boi’s been up to:
Whatcha Playin’, Coffee?
I finished the remainder of Crisis Core Reunion last weekend. It still hurts to see Zack kick it the way he did. Even the use of the Heike Soul didn’t stop him from being plastered to the dirt. It’s safe to say that, after all he and Cloud went through, Zack did end up being a hero after all.
Fun fact – I used that scene as the basis for the first chapter of Mobius VII, Book 1.
Following that, I started on Hollow Knight, as I promised to do. However, as much as I love the game, I couldn’t get fully into it. My mind was on other games. So, I switched over to Super Mario 64 on the Nintendo Switch Online service. I’ve had Mario on the brain, considering that Friday was Mar10 Day. I’ve already cleared Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World, so Mario 64 was due for a playthrough. As of writing, I’ve collected about 100 of the 120 available Power Stars.
On International Women’s Day, I fired up Metroid Prime Remastered to honor and celebrate one of gaming’s greatest women – Samus Aran. And OH MAN, was it amazing! Metroid Prime for the GameCube and Metroid Fusion for the GBA were my gateways into the Metroid series. Remastered felt just like coming home after a long time away. The control scheme took some getting used to, but once I got the hang of it, I started tearing through it like it was the old days. Less than a few hours in, I’ve picked up my old gear, got the Wave Beam and Space Jump Boots, and picked up the Thermal Visor. All while picking up a ton of Missile Expansions and Energy Tanks along the way. Fun times!
Whatcha Writin’, Coffee?
First thing’s first: Stats for this week:
Chapters complete: 1
Chapter in progress: 2
Chapters remaining: 47
Words written: 2,171 (Up by 461 from last week)
Writing has been a bit slow this week. The kids weren’t feeling well, so my energy was spent taking care of them and feeling anxious about their well-being. I did make some progress on the Sonic Frontiers writeup and on the Book 2 draft. All in all, not an entirely unproductive week. Little by little, it will all get done.
I’ll have the Fatherhood post up on the blog for next week. Going through illnesses over the previous week has given me some more context for the post.
Whatcha Watchin’, Coffee?
I watched the Super Mario Bros. Movie trailer with Kid Espresso, and all he wants to do now is watch it non-stop! I’m in agreement – it looks really good! Rainbow Road looks exceptional and the overall tone of the film feels pretty rad so far. April can’t come fast enough!
How’s Trainin’, Coffee?
15 minute workouts have been my saving grace this week. When all I can think about are the well-being of the kids, Arnold’s suggestions, ideas and positive words helped me maintain my focus. Still managed to get in a good, proper workout at the beginning of the week too.
Whatcha Streamin’, Coffee?
My intention this week was to begin filming for my new Twitch and YouTube trailers. I wrote scripts and everything. But then when the kids got sick, all of that went to the backburner. In some ways, this was a good thing as I feel like my recording setup needs some more tweaks before I can totally start the whole video content creation thing.
Music things have been popping like crazy. It’s been a long, long time since I felt this creatively inspired. It probably won’t last very long, but I’ll lean into it as long as I am able. I made a second track inspired by Splatoon 2 and I’m working on a new track inspired by God of War: Ragnarok. These along with the Apotos track will make excellent background music for my new content. Maximum hype initiated!
So, how has last week treated you? Let me know in the comments and I’ll see you on Friday! Hopefully on time too!
